GLOVERALL

Gloverall Duffle Coats are among some of the finest outerwear in the world. Premium quality, durable andtried and tested design are just some of the reasons why Gloverall Duffle Coats continue to be as popular today as they ever were. The Gloverall story starts with World War I and the sudden popularisation of the naval Duffle Coat in mainstream fashion. The British Royal Navy issued a camel coloured Duffle Coat as a warm coat during World War I. The design was improved and modified and then widely issued during World War II. Field Marshal Montgomery was a famous wearer of the Duffle Coat, often pictured in one during the war,

and giving rise to the coat's nickname, the 'Monty Coat'.

Following the end of the war, British firm, Gloverall purchased a large amount of the surplus military Duffle Coats and then began to make thier own iconic version of the Duffle Coat in 1954. They have continued to make the Monty ever since and still do. In the 1950s Gloveralldesigned the now famous version of the Duffle Coat by using leather fastenings and Buffalo Horn toggles with a double-faced check back fabric. Every Duffle coat you see today in that configuration is a copy of that original made by Gloverall.
