Winston Churchill shows the Victory sign to onlookers in Bradford on Dec 4th 1942. A piece of WWII history on a fab Retro T-shirt. Realm & Empire signature tab sign off finishes the garment off in style.
Former Belgian Minister of Justice, Victor de Laveleye, addressed radio listeners on January 14th, 1941 to propose the letter V as a rallying emblem to boost morale in WWII... a sign of V for Victory. British Prime Minister Winston Churchill embraced the sign, even if he did need to reminded of the palm outwards gesture, so as not to perpetuate a now famous sign considered at the time to be a working class slur. Churchill would say about the V-sign: The V sign is the symbol of the unconquerable will of the people of the occupied territories and of Britain; of the fate awaiting Nazi tyranny...
BBC aannouncer, Colonel Britton added an aural component - 3 dots and a dash for the Morse Code V. People were urged to tap it, whistle and hum it, in a show of solidarity. On June 27, he introduced the opening notes of the movement known as 'Fate Knocking at the door' of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.
Posters would encourage this crusade for freedom - V is for Victory!

I love the t-shirt. I wish it was a picture of Churchill though swearing and nothing else. Haha.
