'King Mojo Festival No1'

The above extract was taken from a newspaper advertsement for The King Mojo Festival No.1 Alldayer back in 1963.

Queens Hall, Leeds: UK and USA International Mojo Festival No 1: June 3rd 1968- All day Whit Monday: Dancing for 10,000.

Amongst the great acts at this musical extravaganza were mod icons The Small Faces (returning to the King Mojo lineup- to pay homage to the club that helped them on their way to stardom), Bill Haley and the Comets, Peter Frampton's The Herd and soul legend Edwin Starr. Compered by King Mojo himslef, Peter Stringfellow, the gig was billed as having dancing for 10,000.

Interestingly this 1968 gig was still under the banner of King Mojo's of Sheffield even though the club itself was forcibly closed in 1967. Also the venue of Queens hall, Leeds, is quite a distance from the original King Mojo Club (555, Pitsmoor Road, Sheffield). Even though it had now closed, the address for advance tickets remained that of the original club. Presumably Peter Stringfellow still used the old King Mojo's as a base for a while after the closure.
