The celebrated artist Paul Nash had something of a tumultuous relationship with the WAAC (War Artists' Advisory Committee). He was unpopular with some members of the committee partly because of the modernist nature of his work. It had been suggested some within the WAAC disliked his anthropomorphic interpretations of aircraft.
