With roots stemming from classic Sixties Ivy League styling, the Monkey Jacket became a favourite item of Retro Clothing for followers of both the Mod and Mod Revival scenes.
The term 'Monkey Jacket' in reference to fashion was originally used to describe tight fitting Naval Military Jackets, meaning a 'Short Jacket'. It was also used to refer to Military Frock Coats with tails.
However 'Monkey' is also a slang word for any small place or article... hence an ideal nickname for this stylish short jacket. Coined by Sixties Mods, the term 'Monkey Jacket' is now the accepted name for this particular style of jacket. A surefire hit for the mod and indie arenas.
