The Aviator was the first style ever developed by Ray-Ban Sunglasses, in 1937. This military inspired design was made firstly for pilots who wanted to 'ban' the suns 'rays' from their eyes while they were in the cockpit. A couple of years after the Aviator made it's debut, Ray-Ban developed the Shooter variation for wear by huntsmen, fisherman and for other outdoor activities. The instantly identifiable circle 'cigarette holder' to the bridge of the sunglasses gave the wearer somewhere to keep his cigarette while he aimed his gun. It may not be essential for this function today, but the style still looks as cool and stylish as ever. A truly Retro pair of sunglasses on a iconic Aviator frame.
