Charles Buchan besides being a football journalist and magazine founder in later life was an incredibly gifted footballer. Second in Sunderland's all time goalscoring records, Buchan was transferred to Arsenal in 1925. With a fee arranged well short of the £4,000 Sunderland wanted, but with a £2,000 fee and £100 a goal sweetener, Buchan eventually signed. Scoring 21 goals that season, Sunderland ended up with their transfer fee and more!
Charles Buchan's Monthly was a football magazine edited by the man himself from 1951 until his death in 1960. The magazine continued until 1974 without it's founder at the helm.
