Notes On Clothing Sizing And Fit
Please note, all our sizes are approximate sizes and our size conversion is intended as an approximate guide to aid sizing. Some items, especially in vintage clothing may vary from generic or standard sizes. Items which are not in generic or standard sizing will usually be noted in the description. Also sizing may vary from clothing brand to brand.
Please also note, some of the labels on clothing may differ from the actual size, especially in the case of vintage clothes. Also you may receive an item which is labelled as M/L where it actually a Medium, and so on. Our sizes are based on the actual size of the garment and so may occasionally differ from what the label states. Unisex items may have the male or female size on the label or both sizes.
If in doubt, it is best to measure yourself and/or a similar item of clothing you already own and compare this to the sizes on our website. Instructions on how to measure for different items of clothing is detailed below.
Cosy Coat Scale: Summer and Winter Outerwear
One thing we are asked quite often is 'How warm is this Coat? Can I wear this Jacket in Winter or is more of a Summer Jacket?' To help, we have put together our Winter Coat guide - to hopefully give you a better idea of the warmth of our Coats and Jackets. All coats are marked out of five, with one being the lightest, summer or warm weather jackets and five being the heaviest, winter and cold weather coats and jackets.

Very lightweight jackets or coats, designed for Summer or warmer weather wear. Unlined. Shirt-Jackets, overshirts and hoodie or track top style jackets are also in this catagory.

Lightweight Jacket designed for warmer weather wear. Usually lined, but still quite light.

Transitional jackets and coats which could be worn in Spring or Autumn. Neither very light or very heavy. Good for mild weather.

All shoes and boots sizes are in standard UK sizes.
International Shoe Size Conversion:
Please note, this is intended as a guide and is only approximate. The shoes will be in the standard UK shoe size.
Hats and Caps:
Hat sizes are measured by the circumference of the brim of the hat. To measure your hat size
Small - 55cm
Medium - 57cm
Large - 59cm
Extra Large - 61cm
How to Measure your Head:
An average head size for a man is 57 cms. The average head size for a lady is 55 cms.
To check your head size, take a measuring tape and place it around the circumference of your head, slightly above the ears. The measurement is the size of hat you will need. eg. If you measure 57cm, your hat size is 57cm and so, a size medium.
Belts And Other Accessories:
Belt lengths are approximately as follows*:
Small - 78cm / 30.7" (should fit up to size 30" waist or womens size 10)
Medium - 90cm / 35.4" (Should fit waist size 30" - 32" waist or womens size 12 - 14
Large - 105cm / 41.3 (Should fit waist size 34" - 36" or womens size 16 - 18)
*Exact measurement will slightly differ from item to item, but should still fit recommended waist sizes.
Mens Jackets, Track Tops and Coats:
Generic or Standard Sizing in Inches:
International Jacket/Coat Size Conversion:
To Measure Your Chest Size:
Raise your arms slightly and measure just under your arms. Be sure to cross over the shoulder blades and the fullest part of the chest. Jacket sizes are equal to your chest size. For example, if you have a 38" chest, you would wear a size 38 Jacket or Coat.
If you are unable to measure yourself easily you can also compare the sizes to a jacket you already own and which fits you well. Measure the jacket laid flat and zipped or buttoned up. Measure straight across the jacket on the front from armpit to armpit, from seam to seam. Double the result and this should give you the chest size of the jacket. eg. If you measure 19" across the chest of the jacket, armpit to armpit, 19" doubled is 38", so 38" is the chest size of the jacket. Please bear in mind that different fits of different jackets may be tighter or looser cut, so it may be worthwhile measuring 2 or 3 jackets which fit you well to get a clearer idea of what size you need if you are using this method.
To confirm your jacket size, measure your waist or the waistband of a comfortable, well fitting pair of trousers or jeans and add 6 inches. eg. If you are a 30" waist usually your chest size will be about 36", or if you are a 32" waist, your chest size will be about 38", etc.
Baracuta Harrington Jackets:
Harrington Jackets are traditionally a blouson or loose fitting jacket and so are cut generously. Baracuta Harringtons are usually made in chest sizes although the actual measurement of the chest on the jacket will be bigger than the chest size it is intended to fit. Slimfit G9 and Slimfit G10 jackets are cut slightly tighter in the chest and arms than the traditional classic Baracuta Harrington Jackets. To find your chest size, please follow the instructions above.
Mens T-Shirts, Polos, Jumpers And Other tops
Generic or Standard Sizing in Inches:
Sizes are to fit the above chest sizes approximately, unless otherwise stated. Some items are slimmer fitting than others.
T-Shirts: VINTAGE GREY, VINTAGE DENIM, VINTAGE ORANGE and VINTAGE PINK colour T-Shirts are not labelled in standard sizes but will be adjusted for a standard size on your order (ie. if you order a medium, your t-shirt will be labelled as large, but measure closer to a Medium). This DOES NOT apply to VINTAGE GREEN colour t-shirts, which are standard fit.
Mens Trousers, Jeans, Flares And Drainpipes:
What do the sizes mean?
The sizes for our jeans, trousers and flares are usually a number followed by a letter. ie. 32R. The number in this refers to the waist size in inches, and the letter refers to the leg lenght (inside leg). eg. 32R would be 32" waist with a Regular (R) inside leg length.
International Trousers/Jeans Size Conversion:
To measure your waist:
Measure around your waistline where you normally wear your trousers or jeans, keeping your forefinger between your body and the measuring tape. Trousers, Jeans and Flares sizes are equal to your waist size. For example, if you have a 32" waist, you should wear a size 32" jeans or trousers.
Alternatively you can measure the waistband of a pair of trousers or jeans which are a comfortable fit. Measure around the circumference of waist band with the trousers fastened, this should give you the waist measurement.
Leg Length:
Where available, Jeans, Trousers and Flares are available in 3 leg lengths (Unless stated otherwise):
Short (S) - 30"
Regular (R) - 32"
Long (L) - 34"
To measure your inside leg:
Using a pair of trousers or jeans that fit you well, measure from the top of the inner trouser leg seam to the opening at the bottom of the trouser leg (the hem). The number of inches is the inseam length, rounded to the nearest half inch.

To Measure Your Chest Size:

To confirm your chest size, measure your waist or the waistband of a comfortable, well fitting pair of trousers or jeans and add 6 inches. eg. If you are a 30" waist usually your chest size will be about 36", or if you are a 32" waist, your chest size will be about 38", etc.
Collar Sizes:
Some shirts are available in collar sizes. Generic or standard sizes are approximately as follows:
Small - 14" - 14.5" approx
Medium - 15" approx
Large - 15.5 - 16" approx
To measure your collar:
Place the measuring tape around the fullest part of your neck and keep the tape snug but not tight. For a comfortable fit, place 2 fingers between the tape and your neck. Round up to the next 1/2 inch.
Mens Suits and Formal Wear:
Usually for suits, your jacket size will be 6 inches more than your trouser size. ie. If you are a size 30" waist, your jacket size will be 36", and so on.
To measure your chest:
Raise your arms slightly and measure just under your arms. Be sure to cross over the shoulder blades and the fullest part of the chest. Suit sizes are equal to your chest size. For example, if you have a 38" chest, you would wear a size 38 suit.

Womens Trousers, Jeans, Flares and Drainpipes:

Please note, most of our Womens Jeans, Flares and Drainpipes will have the size written something like: Size 10 (30W 32L). This means the size would be approximately a UK Size 10, but the exact measurements are 30" waist - 30W and 32" inside leg - 32L.
