Founded in 1916 by the Vitale family in Turin, Kappa was originally called Maglificio Calzificio Torinese (MCT). Robe di Kappa emerged as a luxury sportswear brand in the 1960s and was the first Italian clothing brand to sponsor football, eventually sponsoring teams including Roma, Barcelona and the Italian national squad. The 80s Casuals sub-culture brought Kappa Clothing to British shores. Kappa track tops and t-shirts became essential football casualwear and the famous Kappa logo, known as ‘The Omini’ (back-to-back seated figures) became a badge of pride on the terraces. Into the 90s, Kappa clothing became a firm favourite of the Britpop 1990s scene, famously worn by bands such as Blur.
