Cavern Club
The legendary Cavern Club needs no introduction. From 1957 to the present day, The Cavern Club still goes strong. From the Quarry Men, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, to The Beatles, the Cavern Club was one of the places where 4 lads from Liverpool honed their craft. The home of Merseybeat, the Cavern Club was originally opened in a warehouse cellar on Matthew Street, Liverpool. Alan Sytner named the club after the Paris Jazz Club, Le Caveau De La Huchette and planned for it to become the premier Jazz venue outside of London.
When John Lennon played with the Quarry Men on the 7th August, 1957, Sytner had told him during the performance to cut out the Rock!
From their first gig with Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, Sutcliffe and Best in Februay 1961, The Beatles affinity with the Cavern Club is unbreakable. It was wear Brian Epstain first saw the band perform in November 1961 and by June 1962, he had secured them a recording contract with Parlophone records. On Saturday 3rd august, 1963, The Beatles. played the Cavern Club for the last time, playing their 292nd gig at the venue.
