Pantherella

Pantherella

Pantherella socks are the finest luxury socks in the world. Founded in 1937 by Louis Goldschmidt in Leicester, Pantherella transformed the sock industry by introducing lightweight, seamless, and fashion-forward designs that contrasted sharply with the bulky, uncomfortable socks of the era. Rooted in Leicester’s rich textile heritage, Pantherella quickly became a prestigious brand, gaining shelf space in premium clothing stores in the 1940s.

Originally trading as Midlands Hosiery Mills, it adopted the Pantherella name in 1945, going on to export widely across Europe, North America, and Australia. Over decades, ownership shifted from Goldschmidt to Burberry in 1990, before becoming part of HJ Hall’s group in 2001, all the while upholding uncompromising quality and craftsmanship.

Where are Pantherella socks made today?

Pantherella’s socks were crafted in their Leicester factory up until 2024, a site steeped in history where their offices remain to this day. Since 2025, production has shifted to Italy—home to world-renowned luxury fashion and expert craftsmanship—which aligns perfectly with Pantherella’s commitment to quality. The finest Italian yarns, which have been used by the brand since its inception, continue to be carefully inspected and woven into each pair, ensuring the same exceptional standards as their English heritage.

Who wears Pantherella socks?

Pantherella has a broad yet discerning fan base spanning royalty, celebrities, and style icons. Intriguingly, the brand’s socks were once linked to Pablo Picasso himself—with an envelope from the artist’s French home sent alongside a pair embroidered with two 'P's, symbolizing his initials. Today, figures like Kit Harington and Jamie Dornan have been spotted sporting Pantherella’s elegant designs.

Are Pantherella Socks perfect for all occasions?

Made from premium yarns like merino wool and Egyptian cotton, these socks are perfect for formal occasions such as weddings, adding a splash of colour under a tailored suit. They’re equally suited for elevating everyday or business attire, with invisible socks for loafers and trainers offering versatility.

How should Pantherella socks be styled?

Pantherella’s socks feature a classic, timeless palette with heritage-inspired patterns like tartan, dogtooth, and polka dots, alongside bold, contemporary designs. They pair beautifully with vintage brogues, modern trainers, and dress shoes alike, making them a stylish finishing touch for both sharp formalwear and relaxed, retro-inspired outfits. Their seamless toe construction and reinforced areas ensure comfort and durability while maintaining sophisticated flair. Whether dressing for the terraces or the boardroom, Pantherella socks embody a quintessential blend of British tradition and modern elegance.

Pantherella remains a beacon of English sock-making excellence, tracing its roots to Leicester’s hosiery heartland and evolving to meet global luxury standards today. Each pair is a legacy of craftsmanship, innovation, and timeless style spanning more than eighty years.
