ALPHA INDUSTRIES

Founded: 1959, Knoxville, Tennessee, United States.

Alpha Industries started making military clothing for the US army in 1959. Although they made many different styles of clothing it was the MA-1 Bomber Jacket and the M-65 Fishtail Parka which became world famous. Both of these items were made almost exclusively by Alpha Industries, and due to the high quality and craftsmanship in the garments, they quickly became popular with mods in the 1960s and 70s. Fishtail parkas were ideal to wear while riding or working on scooters and the MA-1 bomber jackets were a popular look for mod revivalists in the 70s.

BARACUTA

Founded: 1937, Manchester, United Kingdom

Baracuta designed and made the first Harrington jacket - the Baracuta G9. The G9 jacket coined the 'Harrington' nickname when it was worn by the character Rodney Harrington in the 1960s US TV adaptation of Peyton Place (played by Ryan O'Neal). One of the most iconic mod jackets, the Baracuta Harrington has been frequently copied, but as all mods know, never bettered.

BASS WEEJUNS

Founded: 1876, Maine, United States

American footwear company, GH Bass & Co was established in 1876 and began making thier world famous Bass Weejun loafers in 1936 - a stylish twist on a Norwegian farm shoe designed for 'loafing in the field'. The world's first penny loafer was born. Very popular on the 60s mod scene, Bass Weejuns are available as classic penny loafers, kilted and tassel loafers and also in a wide variety of seasonal fabrics and colours.

BEN SHERMAN

Founded: 1963, Brighton, United Kingdom

Famous for the button down shirt, Ben Sherman could also arguably be the world's most famous mod clothing brand. The Ben Sherman Shirt is a mod staple, whether it's a classic Gingham check, cool Oxford fabric or a retro print, but Ben Sherman also caters for all aspects of the mod wardrobe; parkas, Harrington jackets, polos, trousers, t-shirts and more. CLARKS ORIGINALS

Company Founded: 1825, Street, Somerset, United Kingdom

Beginning in 1825, Clarks didn't start out making shoes at all - they made sheepskin rugs. After a few years, they started to use the offcuts from the rugs to make slippers and the rest, as they say, is history. Skipping forward a few decades and a few generations of the Clarks family to 1950, Nathan Clark - the great-grandson of James Clark, one of the company's founder, designed the Desert Boot. Clarks' most iconic and world famous style, the Desert Boot is an unlined suede boot based on the footwear worn by army officers in the Second World War. Desert Boots quickly became a favourite of Mods in the 1960s and endure as such to this day. DR MARTENS

Founded: 1947, Seeshaupt, Germany

The original Dr Marten's 1460 boots were launched in the UK on the 1st of April, 1960 as an eight eyelet, cherry red leather ankle boot. Named after the launch date, this iconic pair of boots still make up the core look of Dr Martens today. Originally gaining popularity as a work boot, the Dr Martens boot became a mod fashion statement in their own right in the late 60s and onwards. Dr Martens boots are available in both men's and women's sizes, in the original Cherry Red and Black colours, plus a variety of seasonal colours and styles, as well as Chelsea boots, Monkey boots, Loafers and Shoes.

FARAH

Founded: 1920, Texas, United States

Farah's clean-cut and sharp-looking hopsack trousers were an essential mod clothing item for mods in the 1960s and beyond. Today Farah is a full mens fashion lifestyle brand with polos, knits, t-shirts and jackets faithful to that mid-century Americana look.

FRED PERRY

Founded: 1952, London, United Kingdom

Fred Perry's twin tipped polo shirt has become the archetypal mod polo, and one of the world's most iconic menswear garments. The brand founded by and named after British tennis player and Wimbledon legend, Fred Perry, has gone on to become synonymous with mods and mod culture. Gabicci came to the mod fashion forefront for their jersey polos and Italian-inspired knitwear in the late 1970s and 80s. Sharp retro looks, clean lines and smart styles appealed to mods, who made Gabicci one of the staples of the mod look. Today Gabicci remains faithful to their roots with the Gabicci Vintage range, featuring the same jersey polo shirts and knitted jumpers, cardigans and polos. JOHN SMEDLEY

Founded: 1784, Matlock, Derbyshire, United Kingdom

LEVI'S

Founded: 1853, San Francisco, California, United States

Levi's Jeans doesn't need any introduction. This classic American denim brand was the essential jeans brand for mods in the 60s and so too today. The Levi's 501® - the origianal, straight leg design - is the most famous style, but mods also wear the slim and skinny 511 and 512 fits, as well as the 527 Levi's slim bootcut jeans at the other end of the fit spectrum. LOIS JEANS

Founded: 1962, Valencia, Spain.

Lois Jeans became popular on the mod scene in the 1970s and with mod casuals in the 1980s. Known for their jeans, cord trousers, t-shirts and jackets - and an iconic bull logo, Lois is still made in Spain today. MADCAP ENGLAND

Founded: 2007, Scarborough, United Kingdom

Madcap England is Atom Retro's house brand. Starting life with a mod 60s style racing jumper in two colours and a Steve Mariott inspired knitted polo cardigan, Madcap England now caters for all facets of the mod wardrobe including shirts, polos, jackets, coats and footwear. MERC

Founded: 1967, London, United Kingdom

Merc opened on Carnaby Street in the late 60s. A full men's lifestyle brand, Merc are famous for their stay-pressed trousers, polos, jackets and shirts. Added to the range is a small capsule of womenswear - women's Harrington jacket, parka, polos and polo tennis dresses.

ORIGINAL PENGUIN

Founded: 1955, Minneapolis, United States

American brand, Original Penguin started life as a leisurewear and golfing brand by Minneapolis-based underwear and military garment manufacturer, Munsingwear. With it's iconic Pete The Penguin logo, Original Penguin is also said to be the originator of the classic golf polo shirt. The Original Penguin Earl polo, with its smart pique cotton fabric and piped collar and placket was a hit with mods and its popularity endures today.

PRETTY GREEN

Founded: 2009, London, United Kingdom

Founded by Liam Gallagher, Pretty Green has become a big name on the mod fashion scene. Combining classic mod style with a musical influence, Pretty Green cover all mod clothing essentials from Harrington jackets and desert boots to polos and shirts, and of course, parkas. The Pretty Green House Paisley print has become an icon in it's own right, as has the Pretty Green Logo tee, inspired by the graphics from the Beatles Rubber Soul album title.

RAY-BAN

Founded: 1936, Rochester, New York, United States

One of the most iconic names in sunglasses, Ray-Ban has a style to suit every taste. Mods love Ray-Ban's original Aviator and Wayfarer sunglasses styles, plus shapes like Ray-Ban Caravan (popularised by Paul Weller), 60s style round sunglasses or retro 70s Clubmasters offer something different. SKA & SOUL

TOOTAL SCARVES

Registered: 1799, Manchester, United Kingdom

Tootal was first registered in the UK in 1799. Moving to the iconic Tootal Building in Manchester almost a century later, Tootal became renowned for their unique Tootal fabrics and mods in the 1960s and 70s loved their woven silk, rayon and wool scarves in paisley, polka dot and retro patterns. As well as the mod scarves still available today, Tootal also make shirts in high quality cotton and iconic Tootal designs.

TROJAN

Clothing Company Founded: 2015, United Kingdom

Trojan Records was launched in the summer of 1968, specialising in Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae and Dub music. Starting as a mini-collection under the Lambretta clothing brand, Trojan Clothing became a brand in its own right in 2015 with the iconic Trojan helmet logo and the Ska mod look was immediately a hit on polos, shirts, knits and t-shirts alike.
