The History of Ben Sherman Clothing
Few names are as iconic in Mod fashion as Ben Sherman. Born Arthur Benjamin Sugarman in Brighton in 1925, he learned the clothing trade in the USA before returning to the UK in the early 1960s. In 1963, he launched the very first Ben Sherman button-down shirt, setting in motion a style revolution.
At the time, London's modern jazz fans and early 60s Mods were craving sharp American Oxford shirts from Brooks Brothers and Arrow.
