Men's Harrington Jackets

Sizes Categories

We stock a large range of Men’s Harrington Jackets. The contemporary era serves up many variations on this classic style and we are proud to offer a diverse array of Harrington Jackets from many world famous brands including Baracuta, Lyle & Scott, Pretty Green, Original Penguin, Merc, Lambretta, Brutus,  Ben Sherman, Gabicci Vintage, Trojan Records and Madcap England. Summer incarnations of the Harrington jacket style might see a lighter padding and the utilisation of lightweight fabrics, whereas Winter versions may incorporate interior quilting, wadding to the sleeves and melton exteriors for warmth. This ensures the jackets popularity through all seasons and serves to enhance the jackets enduring status as a must have outerwear style!

The Harrington Jacket is an iconic menswear staple. Defined by its short blouson silhouette, ribbed trims, flap pockets, tartan lining and easily identifiable collar, the Harrington was first introduced in the 1930’s by Manchester based firm Baracuta. Intended as a functional workwear garment, the design would incorporate rain resistant fabrics and practical trims to trap warmth and prevent the garment from restricting movement. The Miller Brothers under their label Baracuta perfected the G9 Harrington in 1937, and it’s a testament to the longevity of the Harrington Jacket style that the G9 still remains as popular today.

A timeless aesthetic and unrivalled casual style underlines the Harrington Jackets status as an essential outerwear garment. The jacket has seamlessly crossed over from it’s workwear roots into mainstream fashion via the Americana Ivy League look of the 1950s. Perhaps most notably the Harrington was adopted by the Mod subculture in the 1960s and then again during the Mod Revival era of the late 1970s and early 1980s. A further resurgence in the 1990’s Indie Britpop era saw the Harrington find a whole new audience and indeed the jacket has been a mainstay of the gentlemen’s wardrobe ever since.

Worn by a host of stars past and present the Harrington Jacket boasts Elvis Presley, James Dean, Frank Sinatra and the King of Cool, Steve McQueen as it’s most notable admirers. When Daniel Craig donned a version of the iconic Baracuta G4 Harrington in 2008’s epic James Bond adventure, ‘Quantum of Solace’, the Harrington Jacket trend exploded.

Here at Atom Retro, we wish to pay homage to this timeless and inherently British style icon by stocking a wide range of options for the discerning fashionista. Whether the attraction comes from an affinity to Mod fashion, an affection towards Ivy League style and silver screen icons or simply the appreciation of a darn good jacket, the Harrington seems likely to remain a pivotal part of the men’s wardrobe for many years to come.
