Turn up the colour with the Mathmos Neo Retro Black Table Lava Lamp in Violet with Pink Lava. A modern interpretation of the classic lava lamp, Neo combines a bold black cast-metal body with vibrant violet liquid and flowing pink lava, creating a playful statement piece with serious retro credentials. Its sculptural sweeping backplate gives the design a futuristic feel, while the constantly moving lava keeps one foot firmly in the psychedelic 60s.
But Neo isn't simply about looking good. Developed using Mathmos' extensive lava lamp expertise, it was engineered as a new-generation lamp for both children and adults. The design features low-voltage operation, a cooler-running base and a shatterproof-coated glass bottle, while the bottle is fixed securely to the base and the bulb remains inaccessible during use. Two fixing points on the base also allow Neo to be secured to a surface for additional stability.
Assembly is refreshingly simple too, requiring just two cast-metal pieces and one screw, with an Allen key included. Then all that's left to do is switch it on, let the heat work its magic and watch violet and pink lava perform their slow-motion dance. Retro on the outside, clever underneath.
