Retro lava meets modern engineering with the Mathmos Neo Retro Black Table Lava Lamp in Violet with Turquoise Lava. With its sweeping cast-metal backplate, bold black finish and mesmerising violet and turquoise lava, Neo takes the familiar psychedelic lava lamp and gives it a distinctly contemporary makeover. It has all the hypnotic movement you'd expect from Mathmos, but with clever safety features designed to make lava lighting suitable for both children and adults.
Neo is the result of Mathmos' many years of lava lamp expertise, incorporating low-voltage operation, a cooler-running base and a shatterproof-coated glass bottle. The bottle is securely attached to the base, while the bulb is inaccessible during use. Its substantial cast-metal construction gives the lamp a stable footprint, with two fixing points allowing it to be secured to a surface when extra stability is required.
And then there's that lava. Once warmed up, the violet and turquoise forms begin to rise, stretch, split and reform against the sweeping backplate, creating a constantly changing little light show. It's part lava lamp, part sculpture and a rather clever piece of retro-futurism.
