In 1955, a boozy encounter led to the birth of an icon. Munsingwear salesman Abbot Pederson, fuelled by whiskey during a delayed flight, purchased a stuffed penguin he named Pete. When he accidentally knocked Pete's head off, a stewardess wrapped her necktie around its neck and quipped that it would look good on a shirt. With that, the legendary Pete the Penguin logo was born.
This suave and slightly whimsical bird was first embroidered onto a golf shirt and was soon adopted by a host of legends from the worlds of sport and culture, including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Arnold Palmer.
