Merc London is a well established and famous brand name in the mod menswear world, but don't overlook their new revamped and revitalised Merc women's range of mod clothing basics that every mod girl should have in her wardrobe.

Mod clothing for women can be hard to come by these days. Ben Sherman discontinued their womenswear range quite a few years ago and more recently Trojan Records also retreated from the womens mod fashion market, so Merc's new range of revamped mod classics for Autumn and Winter 2018 is a breath of fresh air. Although the range is still quite small at the moment, we think you'll find it's perfectly formed.

What's in the Merc Women's range of Mod Clothing?

1. The Kara Polo Dress

Available in Navy or Black, the Kara Polo dress is a mod classic. Based on a 1960s Tennis Dress shape, the Kara Mod Dress is a cotton pique, with twin tipping to the collar and short sleeve cuff, and an embroidered Merc crown logo to the chest. A classic mod dress suitable for a variety of occasions. Pair it with thick coloured tights for an autumnal look.

2. The Rita Twin-Tipped Polo Shirt

An instantly recognisable mod classic, the Rita polo shirt is the more feminine version of the Merc men's Card twin tipped polo. Available in 3 classic mod colour ways; white, navy and black, and each with mod twin tipping to the collar and cuff. Made from 100% cotton pique, this fitted women's polo shirt is finished off with an embriodered Merc crown logo to the left chest. Pair this mod classic with jeans or a 60s inspired mini skirt to complete your mod look.

3. The Mary Mod Harrington Jacket

Merc followers and fans may recall the Mary women's Harrington Jacket from a few seasons ago. Well, she's back and better than ever in a cool black colour way for winter 2018. All the essential mod credentials are present in this women's version of the classic mod Harrington jacket with a 2 button funnel collar, fine ribbed cuffs and waistband, button down flap fasten side pockets and of course, a red tartan lining inside.

Who are Merc Clothing?

One of the last original 1960s Carnaby Street fashion brands, Merc was founded by Javid Alavi in 1967. Starting out by selling from stalls in Kingly Market and Carnaby Court, Merc moved into designing and manufacturing their own clothing in the late 60s and by 1973 had bought up a fair few of the shops owned previously by Kings of Carnaby Street, Lord John (Warren Gold) and John Stephen, giving them a domineering prescence on Carnaby Street and the surrounding area. Mostly menswear, Merc specialised in Mod and retro clothing and fashion, establishing a range of core Mod styles such as Harrington Jackets, polos, gingham shirts and stay-pressed trousers still available in the range today. Having been through 60s mod fashion, 1970s and 80s mod revival fashion, and the 90s Britpop mod movement, last year Merc celebrated 50 years in the mod fashion business.
