Born in 1883 Lance Corporal Pat O Keefe began his professional boxing career in 1906 defeating Jim Sullivan to claim the middle weight boxing title. Like many, the advent of war disrupted Pat's promising career and he took a position as Physical Trainer to the 1st Battalion, Surrey Rifles at Camberwell. Pat O'Keefe would resume his boxing career and in his final match defeated rival jack Blake to reclaim the middle weight title and take the Lonsdale Belt. He retired from boxing at age 35 and worked for many years as a publican. An unsung British hero, Pat O'Keefe died in 1970.
