The Scottish War Savings Committee launched a series of posters during the First World War with the main aim of raising funds for the war effort and encouraging austerity through the difficult war years. Bread was not actually rationed but you could be fined for wasting it. This message served to remind people that they should not waste even the most simple basic commodities and continue to do their best for their country at all times to keep the wolf from the door.
