Red and white striped '293 Portobello Road' takes it's name from both the Street and indeed the shop that first bought Mod, Vintage Military styling to the sixties fashion scene. 'Lord Kitchener's Valet was situated at No. 293 in the Notting Hill District of London and was reputedly where Jimi Hendrix bought his famous braided military tunic.
It was the bringing to life of these highly tailored military jackets that made 'Lord Kitchener's Valet' a massive hit with the music orientated rock and roll scene. As many military jackets (particularly dress tunics) tend to be short fitting, they looked and still look highly impressive unbuttoned with the trademark stripey t-shirt.
