A clever and striking new design from Mathmos, with added child friendly credentials, the Neo table lava lamp in blue with green lava. Manufactured in Poole, Dorset, home of the original Mathmos company since 1963, the brand utilise their 60 years of experience into developing the only lava lamp that is stylish and safe for everyone. The Neo table lava lamp is made of cast metal, is low voltage, runs cooler than other lava lamps and has a shatterproof bottle. Matmos designer Jonathan Coles and his team spent two years producing this innovative and visually captivating design with the unique sweeping backplate optically designed to ensure that it both frames and reflects the lava and look stunning from any angle.
The first ever lava lamp was invented by Edward Craven Walker, the founder of Mathmos, in 1963. The first Astro style Lava Lamp was developed from a design for an egg timer using two liquids, spotted by Craven Walker in a Dorset pub. Craven Walker spent years developing this into a light for manufacture initially using cocktail and orange squash bottles and founded the Mathmos company - taking its name from the cult 1960s French Sci Fi comic strip Barbarella. The Mathmos is the bubble liquid force under the city. The lava lamp became a cultural icon in the 60s and 70s - no home was complete without one!
