He was fatally injured whilst riding such a bike in Dorset in 1935. Lawrence' book 'The Road' is often held up as one of the greatest accounts of a motorcycle ride. Taken from his RAF Journals, 'The Mint', The Road refers to his beloved 'Boanerges' Brough Superior motorcycle. T.E. Lawrence gained his famous 'Lawrence of Arabia' moniker as a result of his exploits in the Middle East during WWI. His knowledge of Arabic led to him being posted in Egypt where he served in the 'Arab Bureau' at GHQ. His adoption of Arab Dress, language and custom became fundamental to Allied success in Eastern Campaigns. One of Lawrence' main contributions to the war effort was to persuade the Arab leaders to co-ordinate their actions in support of British strategy. He had an amazing rapport with his Arab counterparts that proved vital to the Allied forces.
